Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy Platform
A web-based platform for reporting Limited Distribution Drug (LDD) referrals at specialty pharmacy sites: integrating with the core dispensing system for near real-time prescription tracking, auditing, and manufacturer-contract compliance.
At Tata Consultancy Services I built and owned a web-based platform that supports reporting on Limited Distribution Drug (LDD) referrals at specialty pharmacy sites. It integrates with the pharmacy's core prescription-dispensing system, acting as a bridge between the end user and that system: it pulls data in near real time and presents it in a tabular view that lets pharmacists and technicians track a patient's prescriptions and run audit operations on them.
Each LDD's contractual parameters are configured in the platform, which helps the pharmacy stay compliant with drug manufacturers' contractual requirements. It managed a large and growing catalog of LDD reporting flows across a national footprint of specialty sites.
What it does
The platform integrates with the core dispensing application and other enterprise systems. It:
- Maintains Limited Distribution Drugs (LDDs) and stores the details of every specialty store
- Assigns and configures LDDs to stores for reporting
- Stores patient prescriptions with their various statuses, and maintains patient and prescriber details
- Captures the manufacturer compliance details and manages LDD inventory across stores
- Associates patient-to-prescriber relationships and links to central prescription records to surface a patient's other specialty-drug prescriptions
- Lets pharmacists and technicians search for a patient and review relevant history
- Collects the additional data a prescription needs for auditing and compliance
- Stores all LDD dispense details and reports referral and dispensed information back to drug manufacturers per their contracts
- Pushes updates to local stores
My part
I built and owned this platform as a Senior Java Developer at Tata Consultancy Services, serving as the technical subject-matter expert for the domain and leading releases end to end. Running it day to day required a deep understanding of both the specialty-pharmacy process and the technology, which was essential to shipping changes without disrupting the system. The platform is built with AngularJS, Bootstrap, Spring Boot, and MyBatis.
